Our Practice

Dr. Nadarajah started in Practice in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine in 1989 in Newton. His philosophy is to provide compassionate and patient centered care. He works with a team of Health Care Professionals including 3 Nurse Practioners and 4 Medical Assistants who are constantly overseeing every patients needs and they are available 24 * 7 to take care of any emergency that arises. We are a unique practice in that we provide care across the continuum from the office to hospitals to long term acute care to sub acute care, nursing homes and home visits. This ensures that you get to see the same practitioners no matter what your health care needs are. We focus on trying to keep your healthy and our philosophy is preventive care.

The Practice is affiliated with Atlantic Health System - Newton Medical Center, Hackettstown Medical Center with seamless access to Morristown Medical Center for Cardiac Surgery or Overlook Medical Center for Neuro Surgical Needs.

We are affiliated with Kindred Hospital in Dover NJ for Long Term Acute Care as well as Barn Hill and Briston Glenn Nursing Homes in Newton NJ.

Daya Nadarajah, M.D.

Dr. Nadarajah attended Medical School at Imperial College in London, where he received the Golding Medal as the best student in his graduating class. After completing his internship in England, he moved to the US for his residency in Internal Medicine at University Hospital in New Jersey. He then went on to complete his Fellowship in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. In 1989, he started his private practice in Newton and has been serving Sussex County ever since. In his 35+ years of practicing medicine, he has earned a reputation as an excellent diagnostician and for strong patient outcomes. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters, and their dog Maisey.

Monica Fernicola , APN-C

Monica is a Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in Adult Primary Care. She received a Master’s Degree in Science in Nursing from University of Medicine and Dentistry School of Nursing.

Before joining our practice, Monica provided care for patients at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center as a charge nurse and was a preceptor in the critical care area. Prior to this she worked as a Homecare Nurse in Northern N.J. for homebound patients managing acute and chronic illness in the community.

Monica has been with Pulmonary Medical Associates since 2012. Monica brings a unique perspective to healthcare services by placing emphasis on personalized care, which includes spending quality time with patients focusing on health promotion, disease prevention and management, health education and counseling.

Julie P. Mihalik, APRN, FNP-C

Julie is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in Family Medicine. She received a Master’s Degree of Science in Nursing at Chamberlain University.

Prior to her working here, she worked at Newton Medical Center for 10 years in various specialties including orthopedic, neurology, wound care and med surg. She is fluent in both English and Spanish.

Julie joined our practice in 2017 as our Clinical Care Coordinator, RN. In 2020, she obtained her Master’s and has become a Nurse Practitioner within our practice. She has established lasting relationships with patients by providing them with quality, safe, and satisfying care.
